12 Ways UBC Wants to Enrich Your Life

Being a college student can mean lots of things, but at UBC we want it to mean that you are loved and accepted and challenged to grow in your faith… and that we show that in very practical ways like…
  1. Free food! It’s true: free food tastes better. And we want to feed you every chance we get. Your food is provided for you on campus? You do your own grocery shopping? We don’t care… we know it’s nice to have home-cooked food, so we do our best to make your tummy full and happy whenever we can.  Sometimes we do this through…
  2. Adopted families. Some days you miss your family. Some days they make you crazy. Either way, we want to give you a home-away-from-home by letting a UBC family “adopt” you. Some families like to take you out to eat. Some like to have you over to their house. Some welcome your laundry. Some have kids or pets you can play with. Some like to watch you compete or perform. But every family is great… and could be greater with you as the newest member of the family.
  3. Mission trips. Admit it: You like to travel. It’s great to go new places, learn new things, serve other people and make new memories with other students and adults who go with you. Our church loves missions. We want you to get involved with us right here in Fort Worth, and other places in Texas, Guatemala, Cambodia, etc.
  4. Financial training. Ever wonder how to make that $2.14 in your bank account last just a little longer? We’ve been there too, and can provide anecdotal support as well as real classes about how to manage your money. A particular favorite: www.daveramsey.com.
  5. New skills. Anything specific you want to learn how to do before you finish college? Chances are we’ve got someone right here who knows how and would love to help you learn. Whether it’s changing a tire on your car, learning to cook a real meal, sewing up a hole in your clothes, building stuff with lumber and power tools or rock climbing that you want to learn, we’ve got someone you should meet.
  6. Small groups and Bible study. We are a church after all, and we think Bible study is pretty important. And amazing. And life-changing. And we want to study the Bible with YOU! Maybe you want a group of other students, or other men/women, or other generations… we’ll help you find the right spot to help you grow in your walk with Christ.
  7. Practice serving and leading. Call it servant leadership if you like. We consider both serving and leading important, and want to help you learn to do both. It can be through missions, kids, youth, music, etc. But it’s great to work with other people, including you!
  8. Corporate worship. Hopefully you have those personal and private moments alone with God when you really connect with Him and get to know Him better, not just know about Him. We want you to have those moments with our whole church family too. There’s something special about a whole room of people calling on God and praising Him.
  9. Mentoring/discipling. This is your chance to get one-on-one with someone further along in their faith walk who can help you discover more about God and apply what you learn to the situations in your life. What an amazing resource.
  10. Networking. We know that college is just a chapter of your life, and someday soon you’ll be finished and moving on to the next chapter. Now is a great time to start getting to know people in different professions and with different skills. Life is about building relationships, and we can help you start now to know people that you can call on throughout your adult life.
  11. Social awareness. It’s easy to live life in a bubble. It can be a campus bubble or a church bubble or a social bubble. But we want to help you see and live outside that safe, comfy place too. Jesus set the example by breaking stereotypes, and we believe in loving the people around us too. That starts with knowing what issues are important or troublesome to them, and discovering how to reach our messy world as Christ would.
  12. Intergenerational relationships. It’s so very fun to be surrounded by people who are just like you… until you remember how many other wonderful people are in our world too. When you get your fill of other 18-23-year-olds, remember that your local church has people of every age. The kids think you’re so smart and funny. The teenagers want to be like you. The adults are excited about the person you’re becoming. We want to live life with you, and let you enrich our lives while we try to enrich yours too. Come be a part of our family… we’ll see you soon!
